Gem Dolomite with Iridescent chalcopyrite

Gem Dolomite with Iridescent chalcopyrite

When these gem dolomites were discovered in mid 2023 they were first thought to be iceland spar calcite (also known as optical calcite). What made this find so significant on the Chinese mineral market was that they were also purple! As purple calcite is a fairly uncommon (perhaps even rare) species, collectors sought them out with gusto.

After a few months of circulating this material, the main supplier and miner decided to get the material tested for confirmation of the mineral species, and it turns out that these specimens were actually gem dolomite! Dolomite is typically non-transparent and does not allow light to pass through. This revelation is quite exciting! To be able to offer such a unique find as gem dolomite with iridescent chalcopyrite is a dream come true! The find itself was not too large, and I haven't seen any new finds of this material circulating into the market yet.

All gem dolomites that can fit into a 3.5 x 3.5 cm perky box will come with a perky box. All gem dolomites will also come with an acrylic base and mounting tac for display purposes!
